mwbaLonchodectidae (mwbqHooley, 1914)cite-ref-1[1]cite-ref-2[2]cite-ref-3[3]cite-ref-4[4] è una mwfgfamiglia estinta di mwfwpterosauri mwgapterodactyloidi vissuti nel mwgqCretaceo inferiore-mwggsuperiore, circa 135-94 milioni di anni fa (mwgwValanginiano-mwhaCenomaniano). Descrizione

Le caratteristiche più diagnostiche dei Lonchodectidae riguardano i denti e le fauci. I denti della mandibola e della mascella sono generalmente piccoli, hanno le stesse dimensioni lungo tutta la lunghezza delle fauci e sono posizionati su margini alveolari sollevati. Il palato superiore ha una cresta prominente. Il genere mwpaLonchodraco presenta due prominenti creste sulla punta del muso e della mandibola, mentre mwpgmwpwIkrandraco presenta un'unica cresta a chiglia sulla punta della mandibola. Solo i generi mwqaLonchodraco e mwqqIkrandraco conservano materiale fossile postcranico, che mostra che il loro corpo era simile a quello di altri esponenti di mwqgLanceodonta.cite-ref-averianov2020-9-1[9]

Classificazione

Il seguente mwuwcladogramma è una topologia basata sugli studi di Pêgas mwvaet al. (2019). Storia tassonomica

Lonchodectidae venne nominata per la prima volta da Reginald Walter Hooley, nel 1914,cite-ref-12[12] e venne inizialmente considerata come un gruppo contenente solo il genere mwzwmwaaLonchodectes.cite-ref-unwin2001-13-0[13] Successivamente, una revisione tassonomica sugli pterosauri di Cambridge Greensand del 2013 considerò mwbqLonchodectes un mwbgmwbwnomen dubium e nominò una nuova famiglia, Lonchodraconidae, per le specie rimaste, che erano state spostate nel nuovo genere mwcaLonchodraco.cite-ref-rodrigueskellner2013-14-0[14] Anche i generi mwdqYixianopteruscite-ref-15[15], mwewUnwindia, mwfqPrejanopteruscite-ref-16[16], e mwgwmwhaSerradracocite-ref-rigal2017-17-0[17] vennero considerati possibili lonchodectidi. Una revisione tassonomica di Lonchodectidae del paleontologo russo Alexander Averianov, nel mwiq2020, ha limitato il clade a mwigIkrandraco, mwiwLonchodectes e mwjaLonchodraco, rendendo così Lonchodraconidae un mwjqsinonimo del precedente nome Lonchodectidae.cite-ref-averianov2020-9-2[9]

Paleobiologia

Stile di vita

Del materiale fossile postcranico simile a quello degli mwlqazhdarchoidi è stato precedentemente riferito a mwlgLonchodectescite-ref-pterosaurs-2013-10-1[10]; tuttavia, questo materiale è stato in seguito riferito all'azhdarchoide mwmwOrnithostoma.cite-ref-averianov2012-18-0[18] Si presume che mwoqIkrandraco fosse piscivoro (che si nutrisse di pesci), sebbene ciò non sia completamente confermato.cite-ref-ikrandraco-19-0[19]
